KALAI MANRAM

The Kalai Manram Foundation represents the Dutch friends and supporters of the Sangam and the Kattaikkuttu Youth Theatre School. They take a special interest in the theatre, and in the position of underprivileged Kattaikkuttu performers, children and education in particular, and in Indian society and culture in general. The foundation primarily operates in The Netherlands, where is has also been registered as a non-profit organization.

Objectives

Hanne M. de Bruin established the Kalai Manram Foundation in 1989. The foundation has the following objectives:

Kalai Manram provides a financial buffer from which the Sangam can draw to bridge gaps when funding from other sources is not directly forthcoming. It is one of the authorized channels through which foreign funds can be transferred to the Sangam.

The foundation is run entirely by volunteers many of whom maintain a special relationship with Hanne M. de Bruin and P. Rajagopal, the pivotal forces behind the Sangam and the Kattaikkuttu Youth Theatre School. Each of the board members has her or his special expertise on which the foundation can draw to answer questions or react to specific requests. Kalai Manram produces an annual newsletter in which activities and events related to Kattaikkuttu, the Sangam and the work of the foundation in The Netherlands are announced. The newsletter is sent to all regular supporters of Kalai Manram.
