The Sangam aims to create an online repository for Kattaikkuttu that captures facets of the theatre's nuanced, multimedia knowledge system, highlights its transmission, and showcases the skills and versatility of its professional practitioners. We also seek to document the rural performance contexts in which they operate.

As part of this three-year project we organize an informal seminar focused on documenting the complex, yet mostly tacit, knowledge of Kattaikkuttu and similar rural performing arts. We have invited practitioners, academics, archivists, and people working with digital information tools to share their experiences in documenting performing art forms that exist outside the formal “creative industry.” These art forms have often been overlooked by mainstream cultural platforms and archives, yet they represent rich indigenous knowledge systems.
